Srinagar, Nov 18: Heavy snowfall was experienced in Pir Panjal range of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday with temperature dropping down to sub-zero level. Earlier on Friday, Gulmarg in North Kashmir along with Leh and Kargil towns in Ladakh recorded the season’s coldest night. With a temperature of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg was the coldest place in the Valley and the second coldest in Jammu and Kashmir along with Kargil. Kargil town in Ladakh region also registered minimum temperature of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius. Leh town was the coldest in the state with the mercury there settling at minus 6.9 degrees Celsius.

Night temperatures at all other places in Kashmir division stayed above the freezing point on Thursday night.

Temperature in various regions of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday:

Srinagar – 2.9 degree Celsius
Qazigund – 4.4 degree Celsius
Kokernag – 2.6 degree Celsius
Pahalgam – 1.4 degree Celsius
Kupwara – 1.7 degree Celsius

The MeT Department has forecast light rainfall or snow at isolated places in the state till Saturday, following which the weather is likely to remain largely dry for a few days.
