June 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared on leading English news channel Times Now, in his first interview after assuming office as the PM of India. The interview was broadcast by the channel on Monday evening at 6 pm and then again at 9 pm and gained widespread traction from the audiences. Meanwhile, the social media savvy PM used his Twitter profile to alert the audiences about the interview on Times Now. It was the manner in which the PM did it was really striking and truly hilarious.
The PM’s Twitter handle used Arnab Goswami’s pet phrase ‘the nation wants to know’ to tweet about the show. The tweet posted on Monday evening, read, Does the nation want to know what I frankly shared with Mr. Arnab Goswami? Find out 6 PM onwards on @timesnow.’ The PM was also questioned by Goswami on his humorous side, which was well at display during his speech before the US Congress at Capitol Hill. The PM had jokingly said during his speech there, ‘I was told that the functioning of the US Congress is quite harmonious’, to which the Congress men had responded with quite a lot of guffaws. On Monday though, the PM discussed the need to practice caution while using humour during public addresses and speeches. “I have a humourous side, but these days humour can be a risky thing,” Modi told Goswami. “In this era of 24/7 news channels, anybody can lift a small word and make a big issue out of it. But I will tell you the truth, the reason for the absence of humour in public life is this fear. I am myself scared. Earlier when I used to make speeches, I would make it so humourous but there would never be any issues,” he added.
