Shimla, Aug 13: A bridge was washed away in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district after heavy rains lashed the state today. Downpour in the state led to the closing of schools in Shimla, Kangra and Solan respectively.
Meanwhile, traffic movement from Kandaghat to Chail has been halted after a part of a bridge collapsed due to heavy rains.
Prior to this, Rispa bridge in Kinnaur washed away due to heavy rains. District administration officials are trying to set up a new bridge in order to restore the movement.
Following heavy rainfall, there has been a huge inflow in the Beas River which has led the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) authorities to release water from Pandoh dam in the state’s Mandi district. People residing in the low lying areas have been asked to stay away and not to go near the Beas River. The BBMB authorities have also issued a warning statement regarding the same and said that the release of water from the dam would continue till 3 pm tomorrow.
District administration officials are keeping a strict check with Kangra Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar saying that residents may call 1077 in case of an emergency. The MeT department too has issued a warning that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue till tomorrow.
Following heavy rainfall, several roads have been blocked as landslide occurred in some areas. The Sangla-Karcham road has been blocked due to landslides at Ruturang in Kinnaur district. Meanwhile, in Kangra district Darohgarh-Jamulla road, Shaman-Thural road, Duhak-Garthoon road, Gawal Till Stadium road and Thural-Challah roads have been closed due to landslides.
Besides the above mentioned, the road has also been blocked in Chamba district’s Panjpula due to landslides. Another landslide incident took place at Phase-3 in Shimla’s Kangnadhaar where a vehicle was damaged.
