Hindu ki abadi badhani chahiye. Har mahant ki iccha hai kam-se-kam 5 bacche, Hindu jugal kam-se-kam 5 bacche paida kare to Bharatiya taakat bani rahegi, Hindustan mein Hindutva bana rahega (Population of Hindus should increase. Every mahant believes that one Hindu couple should produce at least 5 children to keep the power of Bharatiya, Hindutva intact),” he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Earlier on Tuesday, the BJP MLA had compared the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati to a buffalo. He was speaking on BJP’s alliance with different political parties when he reportedly made the comparison.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time when a BJP MLA has given such a statement in a bid to protect Hinduism. Earlier in 2016, while addressing a gathering of saints, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj said, “The concept of four wives and forty children just won’t work in India but it is high time that every Hindu woman must produce at least four children to protect the Hindu religion”.

Three years back, a similar statement was made by West Bengal’s BJP leader Shyamal Goswami while observing Vivekananda’s birth anniversary in a school. The Birbhum BJP joint district president Shyamal Goswami said, “I want to tell my Hindu mothers and sisters that if they don’t have five children, there will be no equilibrium in India in future. Don’t misunderstand me. To protect Hinduism and Sanatan Dharma, it is necessary for all Hindus to give birth to five children.” Opposition parties reacted to Goswami’s remark by alleging that the ruling party was trying to polarise the society.
