New Delhi, Oct 19: Honeypreet Insan, adopted daughter of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, broke down on seeing her parents who came to meet her in Ambala’s Central Jail on the eve of Diwali. Honeypreet, who is lodged in cell number 11, received candles and sweets from her family and spoke to them via intercom. The meeting between Honeypreet and her family members lasted for 35 minutes.
Honeypreet’s father Ramanand Taneja, mother Asha, brother Sahil and sister-in-law Sonali came to meet her on Wednesday. A lawyer also accompanied Honeypreet’s family but was not allowed to meet her. There was a thick glass partition between Honeypreet and her family members inside the jail. On seeing her family, Honeypreet got emotional and couldn’t control her tears.
Honeypreet Insan, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, was arrested by Haryana police from Zirakpur on October 3, around 25 kilometres from Chandigarh. She has been charged with sedition by Haryana government for allegedly inciting violence after a Panchkula Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court held Dera chief Gurmeet Singh guilty in a rape case.
On October 13, a Panchkula court sent Honeypreet Insan and her accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur to judicial custody till October 23. According to Panchkula Police Commissioner AS Chawla, Haryana Police has found evidence of Honeypreet Insan’s hand in incidents of violence in Panchkula following Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s conviction in a rape case on August 25.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haryana Police interrogating Honeypreet had said that she has admitted having prepared a guide map of Panchkula, where violence was orchestrated by Dera followers. The SIT told a Panchkula court that Honeypreet directed her close aides to upload anti-India videos on social media platforms. In one of the videos, she was seen inciting Dera followers with slogans which called for India’s destruction if Ram Rahim is jailed.
