New Delhi, Mar 6: Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of convicted  Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was produced in the Panchkula district court on Tuesday.  The matter has been deferred till March 28. Insan also known as ‘Papa’s angel’ has been charged for allegedly conspiring and inciting violence in Panchkula following the conviction of dera chief  Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh  in rape case by local CBI court.

The hearing was also deferred on February 21. Honeypreet is in judicial custody in Ambala Jail. After a hunt of over a month by the police,  Honeypreet was arrested on October 3 from Zirakpur-Patiala road near Chandigarh along with another woman. She has been charged with sedition by the Haryana government.

Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja topped the list of 43 people wanted by the Haryana Police in connection with the Panchkula violence that left 41 people dead and several injured. She had accompanied Ram Rahim from the sect headquarters at Sirsa to a special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25. After the Dera chief’s conviction on that day, she also accompanied him in a chopper when he was flown to Rohtak to be lodged in a jail.

CASE HISTORY:

Last year on August 25, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of raping two female followers. Following the conviction, large-scale violence spread in Haryana’s Panchkula and Sirsa, leaving 38 people dead and another 264 injured. Isolated incidents of violence were also reported from Delhi and several places in Punjab. He was later sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. A fine of over Rs 30 lakh was also imposed.
