New Delhi: In a yet another case of honour killing, a youth was hacked to death in front of his wife in Telangana on Friday. The incident occurred in broad daylight in Miryalguda town, 150 km from Nalgonda district. Six months ago, the youth had an inter-caste love marriage.
Police said that the deceased, identified as Pranay Kumar, and his wife Amrutha Varshini were coming out of a hospital when an unidentified man attacked him with a machete. The CCTV footage shows a youth approaching Pranay from behind and attacking him on his neck. The victim collapsed but the attacker continued hacking him even as the woman tried to save her husband.
The attacker escaped after throwing the machete while Amrutha was seen rushing into the hospital to seek help. Pranay, however, died on the spot.
Pranay and Amrutha, belonging to different castes, married despite opposition from her parents. Police suspect the involvement of her relatives in the murder.
In a similar incident, the West Bengal police had arrested the father and brother of a Muslim woman on the charge of murdering her for being in a relationship with a Hindu man.
The duo, residents of Bihar’s Jamalpur, were arrested from Kolkata by Purba Burdwan district police, a senior officer had said. Police had on August 31 recovered the body of a woman whose face was mutilated with a stone, from an agricultural land.
