New Delhi: At least 17 people have died after consuming illicit liquor in Golaghat district of Assam, news agency ANI reported. Talking about the incident, Dr Dileep Rajvanshi of government hospital said, “Initial diagnosis suggests alcohol poisoning, four people were brought dead last night and later12 other people died. However, police have started an investigation in the matter. More details are awaited.

In a similar incident, around 100 died in a hooch tragedy in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.  According to the report, there was a fair in the village on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Friday and a lot of people had consumed the spurious liquor after which they fall ill. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, the consumption of illicit liquor was made by the people in Haridwar during a funeral procession.
