Mumbai, June 23: A UAE-based Twitter user wrote a post on micro-blogging site Twitter inquiring which agency one should approach if one receives an email from Indian-based accounts, asking how to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The strange query has kept all intelligence agencies on their toe. A probe has been lunched to get details of addresses from where the such emails were sent regarding ISIS.
“If I get emails from India based accounts asking how to join ISIS, who in India do I report them to? Any email ID contact where this can be reported?” tweeted Iyad El-Baghdadi (@iyad_elbaghdadi) from Norway on June 21. Iyad-El-Bhagdadi, who claimed to be an entrepreneur, author, and Arab Spring activist, has 79.3k flowers on Twitter. His tweet about the ISIS inquiry from Indian accounts was retweeted by 29 and liked by 27. He is currently in Oslo, Norway, says his Twitter handle. According to a report of Times of India, Mumbai Police has launched a probe into the matter, while the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has said that the man can approach any law-enforcement agency in the country and share the details. “We need to establish if the twitter handle is of a genuine persons or someone is playing a prank. Why would someone give his real identity while dealing with such issues?” a source from the security establishment was quoted as saying.
The intelligence agencies have been tracking the activities of youth showing interest in the ideology of ISIS. Nearly 500 Indian youth, who have been attracted towards terror outfit Islamic State or ISIS, were being tracked by investigative agencies, said a report came in May. However Indian government has ben saying that the ISIS has no massive appeal among Indian Muslims. So far 41 ISIS recruits have been arrested by Indian agencies.
