New Delhi, Apr 3: Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Prakash Javedkar will announce the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2018 rankings for higher education institutes today at Vigyan Bhawan. The ranking for all the institutions is assessed on the basis of its teaching-learning and resources, graduation outcome, research and professional practice, perception, outreach and inclusivity. Also for the first time, HRD ministry has included Medicine, Law and Architecture in the category list.
Including the new additions, now there are ‘nine categories’ such as overall, Universities, Colleges, Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, Medical and Architecture.
Last year, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, grabbed the first position in the university list across the nation. Delhi University had six of its colleges; Miranda, LSR, Atma Ram Sanathan Dharma College (ARSD), Dayal Singh, and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC), on the list. Jamia Hamdard got the first position for Pharmacy. IIT Madras was rated the best engineering institute in the country.
The National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) was started in the year 2016 by the ministry of HRD with four categories; Universities, Engineering, Pharmacy and Management. The category section added two more section – Overall and Colleges in 2017. Around 4,000 institutions have applied for the ranking this year. Last year, nearly 3,000 educational institutions had participated. Both government and private colleges and institution have been participating in the ranking since.
As per media reports, the performance of the institution may also be linked to ‘Institute of Eminence’ system.
