‘Human Mind Can Overcome Any Disease’: On World Cancer Day, Parrikar Tweets From AIIMS

On World Cancer Day today, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar tweeted, "Human mind can overcome any disease." Parrikar has been battling pancreatic cancer for past one year.

Late Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar

New Delhi:  Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is battling advanced pancreatic cancer, today on World Cancer Day tweeted, “Human mind can overcome any disease”.

Parrikar was diagnosed for cancer in February last year and is currently admitted in Delhi’s All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

According to AIIMS sources, former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was admitted on January 31 and will remain in the hospital for a few more days.

Speaking to Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), the Joint Secretary of the Goa Cancer Society, Dr. Shekhar Salkar said, “ In Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, we see a strong man with tremendous willpower to win against the deadly BIG C! In the fight against cancer, there can be only one winner. It’s either the patient or cancer! He has set a good example for all cancer patients that they have to be positive in their approach which can help tide over the crisis!”

Manohar Parrikar’s ill health has long been a reason for disconcertment in the Goa political corridor, with the Opposition demanding a change in leadership. But the BJP-led government has also since maintained that the ex-Defense Minister will continue to discharge his duties as the chief minister.
