New Delhi: Ashish Pandey, son of former BSP MP  granted bail by a Delhi court on Friday. Dharmender Singh, Metropolitan Magistrate granted relief to Pandey on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and one surety of the like amount. Pandey had allegedly brandished a pistol at guests of a five-star hotel threatening them in the foyer, a video of which went viral on the social media.

The Delhi Police had yesterday filed a charge sheet against Pandey under sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. In the charge sheet, police had accused Pandey of intimidating a man and his woman friend with a pistol in his hand.

The video of the incident, which occurred early on October 14, resulted in public outrage. It prompted the police to step in and launch a hunt for the accused who had gone missing after the incident. On October 16, an FIR was filed against him and on October 18, Pandey surrendered in Patiala House Court.

“I’m being projected like I’m a wanted terrorist and police across the nation is looking for me. Look Out Circular has been issued against me. If you check CCTV footage, you’ll find who went to ladies toilet that night and who threatened whom,” Pandey had said, while talking to news agency ANI.

Defending himself further, Pandey had said,”I took the gun with me for safety.I didn’t brandish it. It was hanging behind me all the time. I didn’t even address that girl, she pushed me&made obscene hand gestures. I’ve faith in judiciary&so I decided to surrender. There is no history of the police case against me.”

Pandey, hails from Lucknow and is the son of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Rakesh Pandey. His brother, Ritesh Pandey, is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh.
