Hyderabad: 25-year-old Accuses NRI of Converting, Cheating, Raping Her on Pretext of Marriage

The Malkajgiri police said that the accused and the victim met while the two were working in a software company and fell in love. The accused hails from Darulshifa but later settled in Dubai. Since the accused had promised to marry the woman, she followed him to Dubai.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police in Hyderabad on Saturday arrested a Non-Resident of India (NRI) allegedly for raping and cheating a woman on the pretext of marriage. The 25-year-old victim also alleged that the accused, identified as Safdar Abbas Zaidi, also converted her to Islam on the pretext of marrying her.

The Malkajgiri police said that the accused and the victim met while the two were working in a software company and fell in love. The accused hails from Darulshifa but later settled in Dubai. Since the accused had promised to marry the woman, she followed him to Dubai.

In Dubai, the accused asked the woman to convert to Islam because since it was necessary to get married. The families of both the man and the woman too agreed to the match. The two were supposed to marry in April this year.

However, Zaidi cancelled the wedding after a tiff broke out between the couple, Circle Inspector of Malkajgiri told India Today. The victim and her family alleged cheating saying that the accused promised to marry her to convert her to Islam.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 417 (punishment for cheating) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was arrested as soon as he arrived at the Hyderabad airport.
