Hyderabad: Former servicemen are reportedly upset with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BYJM), the youth wing of the BJP, for holding a meeting inside the Army Cantonment in Hyderabad, the Quint reported on Monday. The ex-servicemen took to social media to vent their frustration, said the portal. As per the report, a letter dated October 13 from the office of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) had granted the use of Bison Polo Ground till October 28 and Parade Ground from October 23 to October 28. Many former Armymen have reportedly circulated the letter on social media, questioning the Centre’s treatment of the armed forces. One such aggrieved man, Rohit Agarwal, tweeted that it was wrong to use Cantt as venue for political rallies, wondering why senior officers did not take a stand. Another ex-Armyman, Major DP Singh, a Kargil war veteran, called the move ‘a degradation of the Indian Army’.
“Madam @nsitharaman May pls put a check. 1 side forces r being used2clean up spoiled things due2 misuse/corruption by civilians. On the other hand things kept intact are being opened 4 their use. Jai hind really,” he tweeted. Also Read - Hyderabad Lockdown News: As Cases in Telangana go up, #WhereisKCR Trends on Twitter

Meanwhile, the Congress had a field day lambasting the Government over the event. Party leader Shashi Tharoor defended the servicemen, calling BJYM move ‘disgraceful’. His colleague Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, “In an unprecedented move, Modi Govt’s Defence Ministry has granted permission to BJP’s youth wing (BJYM) for holding a political rally on Defence grounds in Secunderabad. Why? BJP is a habitual offender in using Armed Forces for cheap political gains. This must be resisted.”

The BJYM denied wrongdoing on its part. Taking a dig at Surjewala, they said, “Only an Illiterate would have tweeted this; the Congress conducted the most meetings at the Parade Ground, almost every political party had its rallies here. @BJYM4Telangana dares @INCTelangana to share the complete RTI report of the meetings in the last 15 yrs in this ground.
