Hyderabad, May 4: A 23-year-old madrasa teacher has been arrested for sexually assaulting six boys. “Six boys, between 10 and 12 years of age, were assaulted over a period of months,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Chakravarthy to PTI. Rehan, who taught, Arabic, was arrested on Wednesday on an April 29 complaint by the parents of some of the victims. A case under IPC section 377 (unnatural offences) and other provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered, Chakravarthy said. Rehan has been remanded to judicial custody by a court, he said, adding that further investigation was on.

Meanwhile, the Juvenile Justice Board has said that the accused held in the connection with the rape of a 10-year-old inside a madrasa in Ghaziabad would be tried as an adult. The board said that tests had revealed that the accused, who was initially suspected to be a 17-year-old, was not a juvenile. The survivor’s father had said that the girl was traumatised. “She told us she was taken to the madrassa where she was offered water. She fainted after that and when she woke up, her clothes were wet. She is scared and unable to talk,” he said. The girl had said that the accused took her to the madrasa to meet his friends.

He had informed the police on April 21 that the girl had gone missing from Ghazipur in east Delhi after she went to the market. Subsequently, she was rescued from the madrasa on April 22 by a Delhi Police team and the “juvenile” was apprehended.
