Hyderabad: Woman Alleges Rape by Paan Chain Owner, Says Was Drugged With Sedatives in Paan

The woman alleged that the accused made her eat a paan laced with drugs and raped her, the police said. The accused, identified as 33-year-old Upendra Verma, was arrested following a complaint by the woman.

New Delhi, June 8: The owner of a paan chain was on Friday arrested for allegedly raping a Hyderabad techie he had met on social media networking site Facebook. The woman alleged that the accused made her eat a paan laced with drugs and raped her, the police said. The accused, identified as 33-year-old Upendra Verma, was arrested following a complaint by the woman.

Verma was arrested along with some other people, including women, for allegedly helping him trap his victims through Facebook.

The Hyderabad victim said that she met Verma through Facebook four years ago and later got into a relationship. A few days later, the woman alleged, Verma sexually assaulted her by making her eat a paan laced with sedatives. However, when the woman suggested that they should get married, Verma refused and threatened to make their intimate pictures public.

The woman approached police and a case was registered under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 417 (punishment for cheating). Upendra, however, rejected the claims that he exploited any woman by lacing paan with drugs.
