New Delhi: Congratulating Delhi voters for choosing a new politics, which is the politics of development, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed a press meet on Tuesday, soon after it became evident that AAP is headed for a hat-trick with Kejriwal once again at the helm.
“This is the victory of India,” the visibly-happy CM said.
“We are like a family. I thank Delhi for choosing their son,” the CM said, referring to the terrorist controversy, which was triggered after several BJP leaders called him a terrorist during the campaigning. At that time, he had said that Delhi would make it clear whether Arvind Kejriwal is a terrorist or Delhi’s son.
He also thanked his family, including wife Sunita Kejriwal who also celebrated her birthday on February 11, for his victory. As a mark of his victory, he flew a bunch of blue balloons.
This was one of the most bitterly fought elections in recent times as several polarising issues cropped up at the last moment in an attempt to derail AAP’s development plank. AAP was accused of supporting Shaheen bagh protesters which is a protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The Delhi Police also said that the person who was accused of firing at Shaheen Bagh was an AAP member. Manish Sisodia’s OSD was also arrested in a bribery case just ahead of the elections.
Exit polls, however, indicated that AAP will sweep in Delhi. But early trends showed a neck-and-neck fight between AAP and BJP. In later hours though, AAP went ahead and led in 63 seats of 70 seats.
