The Indian Air Force in wee hours of Tuesday mounted an offensive on terror hideouts of Jaish terrorists in Balakot, Muzaffarabad and Chakoti areas of PoK.

The strike carried out by 12 IAF Mirage 2000 jets dropped six 1,000 kg laser-guided bombs in all hideouts and killed as many as 300 terrorists, initial reports suggest. “This was an intelligence based counter terror strike not a military action for sake of war. Have demolished entire terror set up in the suicide bombing training centre in Balakot, and over 300 terrorists were eliminated in the covert operation by Indian Air Force,” ANI quoted sources as saying.

Three attacks were carried out in Balakot, Chakothi and Muzaffarabad at 3.45 am, 3.48 am and 3.58 am respectively.

According to reports, Pakistani F16s scrambled to retaliate against IAF Mirage 2000s but turned back due to size of Indian formation. Indian Army sources said that the forces targeted camps belonging to terror outfits JeM, Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba.

According to WION, PM Modi supervised and was present in the situation room at South block when the strike happened.

Target was identified around February 20 and 21st with Army, Air Force doing the air surveillance along the LoC- in all, two Mirage squadrons with 12 jets were selected for the operation.

Among those targeted in the strike was Yusuf Azhar alias Mohammad Salim alias Ustaad Ghouri – the brother-in-law of JeM chief Masood Azhar. He was on the Interpol list and among the most wanted in India. They also included Maulana Ammar, associated with Afghanistan and Kashmir operations, and Maulana Talha Saif, brother of Masood Azhar and head of preparation wing.

I want to assure you that the country is in safe hands. Every Indian will win. We won’t let anything threaten India. Serving you is my priority. I will always defend the nation.”

“Today I repeat what I said back in 2014 – Saugandh mujhe is mitti ki main desh nahi mitne doonga, main desh nahi rukne doonga. Main desh nahi jhukne doonga….Mera vachan hai Bharat maa ko, tera sheesh nahi jhukne doonga (I swear by my land, I will not let anything happen to mother India, I will do everything in my might to not let India down,)” PM Modi added.
