New Delhi, April 24: The Congress party was not right in moving the impeachment motion against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, said West Bengal CM and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday. ” Congress was wrong to move impeachment notice against CJI Dipak Misra Had warned both Rahul and Sonia Gandhi about it.The Congress wanted us to support it. But we did not want to interfere in the judiciary,” Banerjee reportedly told News 18 Bangla.

Banerjee’s comment came a day after Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu rejected the impeachment notice, citing lack of substantial merit in it. The Congress had called Naidu’s decision “hasty and ill-informed.”

Earlier today, Naidu defended his decision to reject the impeachment motion against CJI calling it a ‘timely and not a hasty one’ which came after over a month of due diligence.

“Freedom of expression allows that but ultimately truth prevails. I have done the just thing in the best possible manner expected of me, sources quoted Naidu as saying. “I have done my job and am satisfied with it, Naidu was quoted as telling a group of 10 Supreme Court lawyers who met him to compliment him over the decision.
