Chennai, Dec 27: The Income Tax Departement on Wednesday conducted raids on properties of relatives of expelled AIADMK leader V K Sasikala. The department reportedly conducted the raids on the premises of Sasikala’s relative Karthikeyan Kaliaperumal and places including Midas Distilleries at Padappai near Chennai, Sai Group of Companies in Padappai, the Adyar residence of Karthikeyan. He is the son-in-law of Sasikala’s relative Illavarasi.

The raids come a month later when the department had raided more than 100 places related to the jailed leader.  The department had earlier revealed that it has unearthed undeclared assets worth Rs 1,430 crore. “We have received fresh leads about unaccounted investments by the family members in some of the group companies. Karthikeyan is the director for several companies owned by the family. This is part of the earlier searches conducted in all these places,” The Times of India quoted an I-T official as saying.

Midas Distilleries, owned by Sasikala’s family is accused of converting unaccounted money in demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes into gold and other assets after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the move of demonetization.
