  • Dhanushkodi is located in the southeast of Tamil Nadu, known as the “Last Road.”
  • It is situated on the edge of Rameswaram Island, which is recognized as the land border between India and Sri Lanka.
  • This place spans an area of 50 yards and is based on a heap of sand on which it stands.
  • The beauty of this place is mesmerizing, and in recent times, tourists have also started visiting here.
  • One of the finest tourist locations, most of Dhanushkodi remains deserted even today.
  • There used to be houses in the location, along with hospitals for people, hotels, and even a post office.
  • A cyclone destroyed everything, claiming the lives of more than 1,500 people. Since then, most of this place has remained abandoned.

Located 15 km away from Rameswaram, Dhanushkodi has a divine connection with Lord Ram. During the Ramayana era, Lord Ram needed a bridge to reach Sri Lanka. Observing the situation, Lord Hanuman ordered the construction of Ram Setu. It is believed that after rescuing Goddess Sita from Lanka, Lord Ram broke the Ram Setu with his bow, which is why this place is called Dhanushkodi.

There is no airport near Dhanushkodi. The nearest airport to Dhanushkodi is Madurai, which is about 198 km away.
