New Delhi, Jan 13: The Foreign-Secretary Level talks between India and Pakistan is likely to be delayed indefinitely. The cross-border terror attack in Pathankot created major upheavals in South Block, with the government being unable to take a concrete decision. According to sources within the Pakistani establishment, there is a general feeling that the timing for talks is not ideal since the terror attack has ruined the positive environment created after the sudden visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lahore.
The talks between Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary was scheduled on January 15 in Islamabad. The two sides were expected to discuss a range of issues ranging from terrorism to bilateral trade and enhancing security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to take a final call on the meeting scheduled on January 15. With less than 48 hours to go, it is unlikely that India would send Jaishankar to Islamabad.
As reported by India Today, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj this evening, before the Prime Minister takes a final call.
