New Delhi, September 15: The Ministry of External Affairs today gave out certain strong statements in response to the ongoing tussle with Pakistan. Vikas Swarup , the spokesperson for the Ministry of external Affairs today also confirmed that the External affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj will be addressing the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of India on the 26th of September.

Addressing the media, Vikas Swarup expressed that the government had braced a firm position on terrorism. The spokesperson said that the position held by India had regional and global support. he said, ” BRICS high representatives agreed to pool their efforts to counter terrorism & violent extremism emanating from Pakistan.”

The statements from the MEA also indicated to a stern dictate to Pakistan to act on the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008. The spokesperson mentioned of a letter written by the Indian Foreign Secretary to his Pakistani counterpart, enumerating ways to expedite the Mumbai terror attack trial in Pakistan. Speaking on the issue Vikas Swarup said, “Foreign Secy recently wrote to his Pakistani counterpart suggesting ways to expedite Mumbai terror attack trial, letter was delivered on 9th September. It will soon be 8 yrs since that dastardly attack, FS wrote to bring guilty to book, to expedite trial through co-operation through legal channels.” (ALSO READ: Pakistan a hub of global terror: India raises PoK and Balochistan at UN Human Rights Council)

However, the spokesperson clarified that there has been no response from Pakistan in this regard. Vikas Swarup clarified the matter by stating, “There has been no reply yet. If Pakistan is serious about expediting Mumbai terror attack trial then they’ll follow our suggestions in the letter.” He did not stop reprimanding Pakistan there however. It was further explicitly stated by the spokesperson that, India would continue raising the issue of Balochistan globally.

Speaking on the matter, Vikas Swarup said, “Till the time Balochistan faces repression, and human rights violations continue there, India will raise this issue.” This statement more than anything will irk Pakistan. The statement on Balochistan comes immediately after Ajit Kumar, India’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva raised the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Balochistan at the 33rd Session of the Human Rights Council. Kumar raised the issue in response to the statements made by his Pakistani counterpart, accusing India of human rights violation in the valley. Since the killing of Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani, violence in Kashmir has sky-rocketed and Pakistan has repeated accused India of trying to quell the unrest with brute force.

Rebuking this claim, Kumar said that Indian security forces have shown restraint despite the precarious situation on the ground, fueled by cross-border infiltration. “The high number of causalities sustained by Indian security forces is a reflection of the tremendous restraint they have displayed in difficult circumstances,” he said. Kumar also said that the unrest began following the killing of Wani, a “self-acknowledged commander of a terrorist organisation,” it has gotten worse, “by sustained cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan”. The topic of restraint was challenged by his counterpart, Tehmina Janjua who took to twitter saying, “Indian definition of restraint in IOK means killing 90 Kashmiris, wounding 8000, blinding 150”.
