New Delhi, September 3: The Indian Air Force has decided to ramp up its night-time preparedness to deal with evolving threat perception. The elite force has decided to increase its night flying from its current rate, 30 per cent. To have a tactical advantage over its enemies, IAF has asked its forward bases to implement the decision.
The move has been taken to prepare its fighter squadrons to be fully ready for a 24-hour cycle in any operation. An IAF officer told PTI that the move to increase night flying has been taken due to factors including the security threat emanating from country’s neighbourhood.
“The warfare scenario is changing fast. We now are preparing ourselves to operate in an electronic warfare environment and that is why we are making the changes,” said the official.
All the IAF bases including Pathankot, Ambala Halwara, and Hasimara have started increasing night flights. All the bases are increasing their operational capabilities.
The air force currently has all the ammunition and equipment needed for effective night flying. They have powerful electronic sensors, radars, air-to-surface and air-to-air missiles.
The IAF has plans to ramp up its combat readiness and capability as it is pressing the government to procure more Rafale Jets. The force wants to improve existing infrastructure and procure over 100 high-tech jets.
India had signed a deal with the French government to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets at a price of Rs 59,000 crore. 18 Rafale jets will be deployed at Ambala base, whereas the remaining at Hasimara.
