New Delhi, Feb 1: An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer was detained on Wednesday by the IAF’s Counter Intelligence unit for alleged involvement in espionage and possible attempt to access sensitive documents. The officer was reportedly in touch with a woman through social media, whom he passed on certain classified documents through Facebook and WhatsApp.

The investigators are also probing if the detained officer was a victim of honey trap. The officer was taken into custody for further questioning after he was found indulging in activities through unauthorised electronic devices. The matter came into light during routine counterintelligence surveillance, carried out by the IAF’s Central Security and Investigation Team.

The identity of the officer has also been kept under wraps as investigation into the case was underway.

Earlier in 2015, a former Air Force officer was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly passing sensitive information to operatives suspected to be backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
