New Delhi, June 24: The key suspect in the murder of Indian Army Major’s wife has been identified by the Delhi Police today. The police has detained Major Nikhil Handa for questioning in connection with the murder of Shailaja Dwivedi. An alleged love affair between the murderer and the victim is said to be reason behind this murder. The Delhi police has established a connection between the perpetrator of the crime and the victim through evidence which has been found in the victim, Shailaja’s phone. The unidentified man Shailaja was seen with in a private car right before her murder was none other than Nikhil Handa. As per some reports, it is being said that the Major’s friend is supposed to be involved in the murder as he was seen with her hours before the murder. The key suspect has been missing since the incident took place. A team of six is investigating the incident and the details will be known soon. 30-year-old Shailaja was found dead at the Brar Square in south-west Delhi, near the cantonment area with her throat slit. Shailaja was identified as the wife of an Indian Army Major. As per reports, she left home at 10 am yesterday to undergo a physiotherapy session at the Army Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment. Shailaja was dropped by an office vehicle assigned to the Major but did not return when the driver that had left her at the hospital came to pick her up. The driver was told that Shailaja did not turned up for the physiotherapy. It was only later, that a passerby informed the police about a body lying on the street. The police rushed to the spot and found the body of a woman with a slit throat. Thereafter, the police informed the Major about the incident. The identity of the woman was later established. West Delhi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vijay Singh said, “We have solid clues about accused and we are sure that we will work this case out soon.”
