New Delhi, Jan 22: In a major success ahead of Republic Day, the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested Indian Mujahideen’s most wanted operative Abdul Subhan Qureshi after a brief exchange of fire in Ghazipur area. Qureshi,  who is often referred to as ‘India’s Bin Laden’, was involved in 2008 serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad. As many as 21 bomb blasts ripped Ahmedabad within a span of 70 minutes on July 26, 2008 killing 56 people and injuring over 200 others. Originally a SIMI operative, Abdul Subhan Qureshi later joined the ranks of Indian Mujahideen after coming in contact with Bhatkal brothers. Qureshi, who has worked in several IT companies in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, was also wanted in connection with terror attacks in Delhi, Bengaluru and the 2006 Mumbai local train bombings. Abdul Subhan Qureshi’s arrest is being considered as big  catch by  security agencies amid a high alert in view of upcoming Republic Day. Abdul Subhan Qureshi, who belongs to Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was trying to recruit  youngsters in order to revive Indian Mujahideen, DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha told reporters. He was living with forged documents in Nepal and came back to India to revive Indian Mujahideen. Qureshi even went to Saudi Arabia  to revive his terror network, Kushwaha added. The software engineer-turned-terror operative, who carries Rs 4 lakh bounty on his head, was also wanted by NIA in a case which was initially registered by the Kerala Police in Kottayam in 2008 for inciting people to wage a war against the country. Qureshi was also booked for organising a three-day physical and arms training camp in Vagamon of Kottayam district.

All About Abdul Subhan Qureshi

According to security agencies, Qureshi graduated from Antonio DeSouza High School in Mumbai in 1988 after finishing schooling from an institution run by an Islamic trust in Byculla.

He got his first job with an IT firm in Mazgaon. Qureshi then specialised in software maintenance from an institute in Marol in 1996. He married a girl – Arifa from Bandra in 2000 – and shifted to Mira Road.

Qureshi has also worked in software companies like Radical Solutions and Datamatics.

He resigned from job in 2001, saying he wants to devote more time to religious works.

“I wish to inform you that I have decided to devote one complete year to pursue religious and spiritual matters,” Qureshi’s resignation letter stated.
