New Delhi, May 20: In a digital push, the Railway Board has decided that private booking of entire passenger rakes and coaches can only be done digitally using a link in Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) Web site. “There will be no manual booking of full tariff rate (FTR) trains,” an official source of the Railway Board told a leading portal. However, he did not inform the details from which date the new directive will be effective.

Notably, these bulk bookings are usually done for corporate meetings, school/college tours and marriage ceremonies. Till now, to book coaches or trains, travellers had to go to the station master of the station from where the journey would commence and provide a written request containing journey details for FTR booking.

In February 2018, Indian Railways had issued an circular saying,”Booking of special trains, coaches, saloons on full tariff rate (FTR) can be booked through a “single window booking system” of the Indian Railway Tourism and Catering Corporation (IRCTC). Henceforth, any individual or party seeking to book trains/coaches on FTR shall approach the IRCTC and the IRCTC will book trains/coaches online on behalf of the individual or party.”

Earlier this month, the IRCTC launched a new method for rail ticket booking. Passengers can even book tatkal tickets through the newly introduced way. “Now, IRCTC e-wallet users can book rail tickets through its mobile app IRCTC Rail Connect,” IRCTC had tweeted. The e-ticketing arm of Railways had also introduced IRCTC Food on Track App with which passengers can order their favourite food is just a click away during train journey from a place of their choice.
