New Delhi: The Indian Railways has launched a new feature on Wednesday as an update in the official website of IRCTC. This feature lets the passenger make sure that vacant berths are available and enables them to book seats even after the preparation of the reservation chart. Railway minister Piyush Goyal reportedly said that the new feature has been added to bring in greater transparency for passengers.
The new feature will prevent passengers from searching for a ticket collector, Goyal said. He added that the ability of people to market favour will end, thereby the new feature would keep a check on the alleged malpractices in allotment of berths on trains. There will also be colour code to differentiate the seats that are booked, vacant and partially booked. The official website has incorporated over 120 different coach layouts and passengers will be able to view the coach layout of nine classes used in the reserved trains.
IRCTC officials said that the web-based interface can be viewed on a desktop as well as on a mobile phone. IRCTC officials stated that the interface which is similar to that of the airlines would provide a graphical representation of the coaches and berth-wise reservation status. Soon travellers will be able to book train tickets before the train departure within 30 minutes of the preparation of the second reservation chart, stated a report. The first chart is prepared four hours before the scheduled journey after which the second chart is prepared. A railway official reportedly said that the first and second charts will get updated for every charting location.
Meanwhile, travellers can now book their train tickets through IRCTC’s Rail Connect App. Users of the IRCTC mobile app and those who use the online website portal must note that the portal for AC tickets opens at 10 AM, while for non-AC tickets at 11 AM. Through this phone app, the user can make payments using their IRCTC e-wallet. As per the IRCTC rules, a single user can add up to six banks in their IRCTC e-wallet. Notably, the app lets users book Tatkal tickets with the help of the money deposited in their e-wallet from their respective bank account.
