New Delhi, September 18: The Railway Ministry under Piyush Goyal has decided to induct one lakh people in the ‘sanraksha shreynee’ (safety category), according to a report. These vacancies had been kept on hold for a very long time. Five train derailments have been reported in the month of September and in an effort to reduce such incidents the Railway Ministry needs manpower besides technology and equipment.
As per reports, senior and junior engineers will be hired for the safety category. Apart from this, assistant station master and guards will be recruited by Railways. Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) will fill 50 per cent of seats in group C and in Group D vacant seats will be filled by RRB and RRC (Railway Recruitment Cell), mentioned a Dainik Jagran Report.
Right after taking over the charge of Railway Ministry, Piyush Goyal directed railway officials to ask catering staff of Railways to stop overcharging for food and not to seek tips from the passengers. In this regard, a letter from the Goyal’s office was dispatched to all railway units across the country. Also, catering inspectors were instructed to check if Goyal’s orders were being followed or not.
A report of Economic Times mentioned that the Railway Ministry will soon start a track renewal exercise with an aim to cut down on train derailments. The Railway Board has been instructed to scan those tracks that have completed their lifespan or the tracks that are heavily loaded. Almost 2,000 km of track would be renewed by the end of the year, ET report suggested.
