Amritsar, Apr 20: Kiran Bala, a 31-year-old widow covered to Islam and married a man she had met on “social media” while on her pilgrimage to Pakistan. Kiran belonged to Garhshankar town in Hoshiarpur. She left behind her three children with her father-in-law to marry Muhammad Azam from Lahore who she knew for over a year and a half.
Indian authorities are suspecting if it is a case of forced conversion and marriage to a Pakistani. The Shiromani Gurdwara has said that it was a failure on the Indian intelligence officials part. Every year, Indian authorities inspect passports of people before they are sent to Pakistan on their pilgrimage. 1,800 people went on (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) SGPC-led time to celebrate Baisakhi on April 12.
Kiran has claimed that she married and converted to Islam on her own will while her father-in-law Tarseem Singh has sought the help of foreign ministry to help Kiran back. Tarsem Singh told a news agency ANI, “My daughter-in-law called and said that she has converted to Islam & got re-married in Pakistan. I want to request the Prime Minister, CM of Punjab to take her out of this situation. I suspect she might have fallen into the hands of ISI.”
Kiran, who has taken on a new name Amna Bibi refused to tell which social media account she had used to meet Muhammad Azam. “I did everything by myself, no one forced me to do anything,” she insisted while speaking to a newspaper.
