New Delhi, May 29: India and US ties may be strained as India is all set to purchase S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems from Russia for the Indian Air Force. The Rs. 40,000 crore deal between India and Russia has miffed the US as US Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee William Thornberry spoke about the same and said that it might have to check the sale of Predator Drones to India.
In an interview to NDTV, Thornberry said,”The acquisition of this technology (S-400) will limit, I am afraid, the degree with which the United States will feel comfortable in bringing additional technology into whatever country we are talking about.”
Since the acquisition of predator drones is imperative to the country because of its anti-terror operations, India too is thinking of possibilities to keep a check on its relations with the US Defence forces. Thornberry said that despite the recent deal, US is ready to think upon the same lines as India had a history of Arms deal with Russia.
Both the Predator Drones as well as S-400 missile shield is important and can be crucial in strengthening India’s air defence abilities- in Pakistan as well as along the Sino-Indian border.
