“I thank the Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court for this exemplary and inspiring gesture. Their contribution to PM-CARES Fund will strengthen the efforts to fight COVID-19,” the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter. The development comes after official of the apex court told PTI that all the 33 judges including the CJI have donated Rs 50,000 each to the fund.
The official added that the cheques have already been sent to the fund. Earlier, Justice N V Ramana, senior-most judge after CJI SA Bobde, had donated Rs 1 lakh each to PM-CARES Fund and funds of chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh And Telangana.
On Saturday, PM Modi had announced the creation of the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund to help in the government’s fight against coronavirus.
“It is my appeal to my fellow Indians, kindly contribute to the PM-CARES Fund. This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations, if they occur in the times ahead,” he had said.
