Instagram Down: Users face issues sending messages

Meta’s social media platform Instagram faced a technical issue on Tuesday, with several users reporting problems sending messages and accessing direct messages on the platform. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, the problem started at approximately 5:14 PM today. Currently, as many as 2,000 users report the problem, hinting major issue on the Meta-owned photo-sharing platform. Some of the users took to rival social media platform X and expressed their anger.

“Ignored your DM? No, I didn’t!! Instagram is down!!” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Most of the users aske the same question on X – “Is it me or is everyone else also not able to send DM on Instagram?”

“Messages aren’t delivering and show ‘failed to deliver’ after a few minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?,” a user posted.

There seems to be a persisting disturbance, with neither Instagram nor its mother company, Meta, releasing any official statements. As of now, the causes behind these technical glitches remain a mystery.

Notably, the social media platform reported issue on the day of Dhanteras when people were using it to send ‘happy Dhanteras’ messages to their loved ones. However, users are advised to check their Instagram status page and Downdetector website for the latest updates on the sudden outage.

Meanwhile, several users have turned to alternative social media platforms such as X to stay connected with their loved ones.
Notably, Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram reported issues on October 15 that affected thousands in America.

At the peak of the situation, Facebook experienced a staggering 12,000+ glitch reports while Instagram wasn’t far behind with over 5,000 issues noted.
Last year, a single technical hitch had triggered a worldwide disruption impacting hundreds of thousands of users on both platforms, causing a total blackout that lasted upwards of two hours.

Downdetector observed that Facebook encountered an enormous wave of 550,000 disruption reports, while Instagram was also hit with approximately 92,000 reports when the outage was at its worst.
