International Yoga Day 2017 highlights: How the day was celebrated across the world

New Delhi, June 21: The stage is set for the 3rd International Yoga Day, which is set to observed not just across the country but also across the world today. While the main event in India will take place in Lucknow, massive World Yoga Day events have also been planned in Delhi, Haryana, and other states and cities across the country. Apart from that, a total of 180 countries will be celebrating International Day of Yoga 2017 on Wednesday, June 21. While over 51,000 people including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be participating in the Yoga Day event in Lucknow, over 10,000 people will participate in the event in Delhi.

In Lucknow, elaborate security is in place with commandos and para-military forces keeping a close watch in and around the venue – Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan. “Police chiefs of adjoining districts of Lucknow have also been alerted to take preventive measures, especially in the wake of call given by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) to stage dharna on highways,” a police official said. Officials of the Lucknow administration said that more than 400 CCTV cameras have been installed. A dress rehearsal of the event took place on Monday in the presence of Yogi Adityanath and AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik.

In Delhi, over 10,000 people including Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will participate in a Yoga event at the Connaught Place inner circle from 6 am to 7:40 am. The NDMC has organised the Delhi edition of the International Yoga Day at Connaught Place, its six radials and inner circles, and at three gardens – Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden and Childrens’ Park at India Gate.

Meanwhile, more than 5,000 Armymen and their family members will participate in the Third International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 across the central command of the Indian Army. Besides the jawans, the farmers also plan to carry out a Yoga protest. Farmers from different states will take to highways and perform yoga, carrying out a unique protest demanding farm loan waivers.

Not just in India, the International Yoga Day will be observed by people across the world. Various events have been planned by the Indian High Commission in Pakistan and other countries. US, China, UK, Egypt will be among other nations organising events on Yoga Day.
