New Delhi: The Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against absconding billionaire and fugitive businessman Nirav Modi’s executive Mihir R Bhansali on Thursday. The Interpol issued an RCN in connection with the alleged 2 billion US Dollar Punjab National Bank (PNB) money-laundering case.

Mihir Rashmi Bhansali, CEO of Firestar International is wanted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as they want to take him in the investigation in the PNB scam. The RCN which is an international arrest warrant states that Bhansali is needed for questioning in the money-laundering case. It may be noted that the arrest warrant was issued by the ED itself.

The ED had told the global police body that Bhansali would probably travel to the US, the UK, Hong Kong, China or the UAE. The RCN issued states that the Interpol’s 192-member countries may arrest or detain the person if spotted in their countries after which extradition or deportation proceedings may begin.

A similar Interpol notice was issued against Nirav Modi a while back. According to reports, Bhansali is said to be operating from the US.

For the unversed, USD 2 billion bank fraud was uncovered in February at India’s state-owned Punjab National Bank, which accused Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi of Gitanjali Gems of defrauding it. The duo have fled the country and are wanted by Indian courts under a new law on fugitive economic offenders that allows authorities to confiscate their assets.
