New Delhi, June 1: The Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned former finance minister P Chidambaram for interrogation relating to the INX Media case, on June 6. On Thursday, the Delhi High Court told the CBI that Chidambaram cannot be arrested till July 3, after the minister moved two courts in Delhi, seeking protection from arrest in the INX Media case.

One of the courts also directed the Enforcement Directorate that Chidambaram cannot be arrested till June 5, which is until the next hearing.

On Wednesday, the former minister moved the Delhi High Court in the INX Media case where his son, Karti Chidambaram is accused. The minister is accused of granting a foreign investment approval to INX Media in 2007. INX Media is founded by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea.

Karti Chidambaram was arrested on February 28, 2018, but was granted bail in March and let off. The minister’s son is accused of facilitating Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media in 2007 during the time his father, P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister in the UPA government. The CBI registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, against alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was finance minister.
