New Delhi, May 2: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) ticketing website, Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and other online services by the Indian Railways will be unavailable for six hours tonight. The official website of IRCTC – irctc.co.in – and other online portals of the Indian Railways will be shut down from 10.45 pm on Wednesday to 5 am on Thursday. The online portals of the Indian Railways, including the IRCTC, will be shut down for upgradation as some new features are being added to websites and apps. During the above mentioned time period, facilities like the call centre, IVRS touchscreen and 139 enquiry system will be unavailable for users. The IRCTS has recently has introduced a new payment mechanism for booking e-tickets, including Tatkal tickets. Under the new facility, users can book rail e-tickets including Tatkal quota tickets through mobile app IRCTC Rail Connect by using IRCTC e-wallet. IRCTC e-wallet is a payment system which allows users to deposit money in advance with IRCTC. The Railways also introduced new rules of booking Tatkal tickets or tickets that are booked at the last minute. Now, AC Tatkal tickets booking will start from 10 am and non-AC ticket booking to begin at 11 am. A passenger can claim a full refund of fare and Tatkal charges if a train is more than three hours late. The same facility is now available for all passengers if the train’s route is diverted and the passenger doesn’t want to travel on that route.
