New Delhi, Feb 25: The debate over the encounter of Ishrat Jahan by the anti-terrorist squad in 2004 for allegedly closed association with banned terrorist outfit Laskar-e-Taiba took a new turn when former Home Secretary G K Pillai said that she was a part of organisation, but denied to comment any other thing as the matter is under under investigation.
Speaking to media, Pillai said that Ishrat was part of the group which went around India and ended up in Gujarat for plotting the violent actions. He said, “She was definitely part of group which went round India and finally ended up in Gujarat with plot to take violent action against leaders.” He also said that he do not want to comment on the issue whether she was a terrorist or not as the matter is under investigation, but said that her the matter is whether the encounter was fake or genuine. He said, “There was no direct evidence, except that LeT put her name on the website, so I said maybe she was unwitting player.” Pillai also said that based on the David Headley’s statement, no one can come to the conclusions on whether she was a LeT member or not. This was also quite clear from his tone in which he said that whatever conclusions were drawn, were based on initial investigation which was later submitted to the investigative agency for further probe. But he did said that initially LeT put Ishrat’s name in their website a s martyr, but withdrew later.
