New Delhi, Apr 20: In a joint operation, Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and a team of Delhi Police special cell on Thursday busted ISIS-inspired terror module and arrested three suspected terrorists from Mumbai, Ludhiana and Bijnor. A search operation was carried out in Mumbai (Maharashtra), Ludhiana (Punjab), Narkatiaganj (Bihar), Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) and Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) after intelligence inputs. Speaking to ANI, UP ADG (law and order) Daljeet Choudhary, however, said the arrested men were self-radicalised and not in liaison with any group. While three suspected ISIS terrorists have been arrested, six others have been taken into custody for interrogation.

Uttar Pradesh ATS has received intelligence inputs that some terror suspects in western parts of the state had become active and were planning to carry out spree of terror attacks. The UP ATS coordinated with anti-terror agencies of five other states and arrested three men. The accused are suspected to be part of an ISIS-inspired terror module which were in contact with handlers based in Iraq.

  • The operation was conducted with the help of the Special Cell of Delhi Police, Crime Investigation Cell of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra ATS , Punjab Police and Bihar Police.
  • “UP ATS conducted joint anti-terror raids in Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in coordination with police of the five states,” said UP ATS Chief Asim Arun.
  • A team of UP ATS arrested Muhammad Fauzan and Muhammad Tanveer from Bijnor’s Barhapur area. Both were on their way to the mosque for morning prayers.
  • Another accused has been arrested from Mumbra in Maharashtra. The arrested person, who belongs to Bijnor, is believed to be an ISIS recruiter for Maharashtra.

  • “Nine people from different locations were held by police. We have evidence against four such people. All are self motivated or radicalized and not in liaison with any group,” said UP ADG (law & order) Daljeet Choudhary.
  • “In the searches conducted, no incriminating evidence found as yet. But it can be called a possible criminal conspiracy. They are misguided youths, can be admitted to the mainstream after counselling,” added Daljeet Choudhary.

An anti-terror operation was launched after the police had received information that some hyperactive members of a terror group were trying to recruit new members.
