Kashmir: National Conference (NC) MLA Srinagar’s Habbakadal constituency Shamima Firdaus on Sunday alleged involvement of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the murder of two party workers on October 5 in Karfalli Mohalla area and said that she has no doubts about it. The deceased were said to be close aides of Firdaus.
“I have no hesitation in saying that the BJP and RSS killed my workers. I have no doubt about it,” Shamima Firdous said, adding, “The BJP has fielded Kashmiri Pandits candidates in wards of my area. Our innocent workers were killed because the BJP wanted to create panic, so that nobody comes for polling… The BJP wants their candidates to have no competition.”

Explaining her allegations further, she said that while the police say they were killed by militants but the deceased party workers were neither informers nor part of any election process. “Why would militants kill them? I have no hesitation in saying that BJP and RSS are responsible for the killing of my workers. They (BJP) are doing everything to win elections,” she said at a press conference.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, however, denied the allegations saying the NC MLA was making such statements out of frustration. “NC has been out of power for some time now and they are now making such statements out of frustration. We said the incident was unfortunate, and this kind of incident shouldn’t have happened,” BJP general secretary Ashok Kaul told The Indian Express.
On October 5, two National Conference (NC) party workers were killed while another was critically injured after some unidentified men opened fire here. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack. The police later said that some militants had attacked the NC workers.
The accused men targeted the NC workers in Karfali Mohalla of the old city area. The attack took place outside the ancestral house of NC MLA, Shamima Firdous, who represents the Habba Kadal seat in the 87-member state legislative assembly.
