New Delhi, April 30: In a huge blow to Hizbul Mujahideen, its top commander Sameer Tiger and another terrorist Aaqib Khan were killed in an encounter in Drabgam village of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. In the 30 seconds video, which had gone viral, Tiger was heard threatening major Shukla. He had said that if Shukla has guts he should come face to face. And hours later he faced him. Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sameer Tiger had joined militant outfit on May 8, 2016, and became a member of the group of Burhan Wani. Before joining the outfit, according to police record, many cases of protest and stone pelting were registered against him in Pulwama police station. Carrying a bounty of 10 lakhs, Sameer used to upload his videos and photos frequently on social websites and was the first militant who posted his picture on the social website with the AM16 US made gun. According to police, Sameer was the mastermind behind all major attacks carried by militants in South Kashmir. He was also accused of attacks on many political leaders, activists and security forces.
Reports also claimed that he used to motivate youths to join militancy in Kashmir. Not only this, he also had played the main role in the escape of Pakistani commander Naveed Jatt from the Srinagar hospital in February this year.
After Sameer Tiger death, there are three more surviving militants of Burhan group. Among them, is Hizbul Chief Riyaz Naiku, Commander Saddam Padder, and Zinat-Ul-Islam.
Security forces claimed that Sameer Tiger’s killing is a big success for them as it will help them in controlling the militancy in south Kashmir.
Encounter: The encounter broke out when security forces were conducting cordon and search operation in Drabgam area. Security forces had received intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected militants in the area. The suspected militants fired at them. In this encounter, the two army personnel, including Major Rohit Shukla, got seriously injured. During the encounter, the massive protest and clashes were witnessed. Locals were seen pelting stones on the security forces.
