New Delhi, Dec 20: TTV Dhinakaran’s supporter, P Vetriivel on Wednesday released a purported video of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in which she is seen sitting up on a hospital bed and sipping a drink (Juice or water) from a glass. The Rebel AIADMK leader had repeatedly claimed that his aunt Sasikala had recorded a video of Jayalalithaa watching television and recovering at the Apollo hospital. He had said that  they would present the video as an evidence, if required, as proof after Tamil Nadu’s forest minister Dindigul C Srinivasan had admitted that he had lied about Jayalalithaa’s improving health. He (Srinivasan) had said the leaders lied so that people believe she was improving. “I seek pardon from you. We told lies Amma is eating sambar, chutney, tea etc so that you will believe that she is improving. In fact, nobody saw Amma eating idli or drinking tea or chatting. All are lies,” he had stated on September 23. Jayalalithaa died of a heart attack on December 5, 2016 after a prolonged treatment at Apollo hospital. The release of the video merely a day before the RK Nagar by-poll can be seen as an attempt by Dhinakaran faction to stake claim on Jayalalithaa’s legacy, sources informed NDTV.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has issued a letter to TV channels asking them to stop airing the video. “You are requested to stop any further telecast of this video that may directly/indirectly have any impact in the forthcoming elections or any discussion relating thereto adhering to Model Code of Conduct,” the letter undersigned by the returning officer of RK Nagar Assembly constituency stated.

Earlier,  it was reported that the by-poll has been cancelled but the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday refuted all news reports and confirmed that polling will take place in its due time.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami and deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) working president M K Stalin and the sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran left no stone unturned to ensure victory for their respective candidates in the upcoming RK Nagar bypoll.

The results will be declared on Sunday, December 24.
