A similar encounter was reported from Akhnoor only yesterday but there were no casualties reported.

The Handwara encounter, which went on for days this weekend, saw four security personnel lose their lives.  Reports said two terrorists were killed in the encounter. They reportedly belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit.

The encounter was a joint operation conducted by the Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir police.
