Srinagar: Pakistan has violated the ceasefire by shelling forward posts and civilian areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, said media reports on Tuesday. This has happened despite objections by the Army.
Defence sources said the unprovoked firing started at 5 AM targetting both Indian posts and civilian areas in Gulpur sector. However, no casualty or injury has been reported so far.
Pakistani troops had also violated ceasefire in Poonch sector on Saturday as well.
Meanwhile, in Pulwama, one terrorist was killed and his weapon recovered following an attack on an Army patrol party, said ANI. The operation was in progress till the afternoon. The area was cordoned off and internet services in the area temporarily suspended.
Earlier this week, an encounter had broken out between militants and security forces, police said. The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Aripal village of the south Kashmir district of Pulwama following specific information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at the search party which retaliated.
Pulwama has been seeing encounters quite regularly in this new year. On January 3, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces. A soldier was also injured in the operation that was launched in the higher reaches of Tral area during the wee hours.
“Three militants have been killed, while one soldier was injured in the operation,” an Army official informed PTI.
