Srinagar: The three terrorists who were killed in the Fateh Kadal encounter earlier on Wednesday have been identified, reported ANI. According to the J-K police, the eliminated terrorists and their active accomplice have been identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Bangroo, Fahad Mushtaq Waza and Rayees Ahmad. Bangroo was a resident of Narparistan, Fateh Kadal, and had a long criminal record of terror-related activities. Waza, a resident of Akilmir Khanyar, was also involved in several terror-related incidents. Police said the complicity of Ahmad, who provided shelter and logistics to the terrorists, was being investigated. The policeman martyred has been identified as constable Kamal Kishore. The encounter reportedly began in the early hours of Wednesday. One police personnel also lost his life in the encounter. Police were assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the search operation following a specific intelligence input about the presence of militants there, a senior police official said. “Three militants, including Mehraj-ud-Din Bangroo, were killed in the encounter,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Swayam Prakash Pani said, as quoted by PTI. Bangroo was the key coordinator for the Lashkar in the city. “His elimination is an important achievement for security forces,” Pani added. “As soon as the police barged inside the house, the policemen came under a heavy barrage of firing from the militants, resulting in injuries to one jawan, who succumbed later,” the official said. They said the security forces responded to the firing of militants in equal measure and in the heavy exchange of fire, the house, where the ultras were hiding, got destroyed. “They managed to run out of the house and tried to enter into an adjacent house, but were killed in the street,” they added. Meanwhile, the district administration has closed all schools and educational institution in the city as a precautionary measure and internet services on mobile had also been snapped. Clashes reportedly broke out in several parts of the old city after the encounter as miscreants pelted stones at the security forces, the officials said. They said curfew has been imposed in some pockets of the city to maintain law and order.
