Uttar Pradesh, June 24: Samajwadi Party led Uttar Pradesh government seems to have successfully shielded its absconding minister, Ram Murti Verma as the forensic report declares Jagendra Singh’s murder as self immolation rather than a homicidal attack. Interestingly, the Akhilesh government seems to roll over a blind-eye over a dying man’s declaration. The self testimony of slain journalist, Jagendra Singh, minutes before his death, blamed the cabinet minister for orchestrating his death. Jagendra Singh had posted messages on Facebook which exposed the minister’s alleged role in illegal mining and land grabbing. Also Read - Gujarat Man Threatens to Kill Himself if India-England T20 Series is Not Cancelled Amid Covid Surge

Minutes before his death, Singh accused Inspector Sriprakash Rai of raiding his house and setting him on fire. “If they wanted to arrest me, they could have done just that. Why did they have to beat me and set me on fire”. Earlier too, Jagendra Singh had accused the Shahjahanpur MLA, Verma of unleashing a ‘reign of terror’ on him and his family. Singh’s declaration has been considered unworthy by the government since the start of the probe. Showing absolute insensitivity towards the matter, senior Samajwadi Party leader, Shivpal Singh Yadav said, “No action will be taken against the minister until the investigations are over”. Receiving flak over his government’s insensitivity and inaction, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav took matters to into his own hand only to strike a compromise and shield his minister in a systematic manner. He offered scribe’s kin Rs 30 relief and convinced them to settle for a state controlled DIG probe rather than a CBI inquiry in the matter. Ever since the case broke out, the main accused Ram Murti Verma has been absconding. The government has been unsuccessful in justifying his absence.
