Mumbai, Sep 24: Jain sadhus have asked people from their community to fast on Bakra-Eid as a compensation for goats sacrificed on the Muslim festival. Jains had gained a lot of criticism for meat ban for four days during Paryushan in Maharashtra. So, in order to compensate for the killings of the goat on the day Jain sadhus will be observing ‘Ayambil’- a fast wherein community members are expected to eat only cereals and non-sprouted pulses once a day. Messages about the fast is going around social media and community leaders think that more than 50,000 Jains will observe fast. According to a Mumbai Mirror, Jain saint, Hemchandra Surishwarji Maharaj, said, “We do understand that it is an important occasion for the Muslim community and offering sacrifice is a part of it. Surishwarji Maharaj has sent thousands of people to go across and spread the message. According to the community leaders, it is difficult for them to see so many animals being sacrificed and hence they are taking a step to compensate for it.
