Srinagar, July 7: Three civilians, including a teenage girl, were killed after security forces allegedly opened fire at stone-pelters during a cordon and search operation in a south Kashmir’s Kulgam village on Saturday. The deceased civilians were identified as Andleeb (16), Shakir Ahmad (22) and Irshad Ahmad (20). Speaking to IANS, a police officer said,”Residents of Hawoora and adjoining villages tried to disrupt the anti-terror operation as security forces cordoned off the area following inputs that a group of militants was hiding in Kulgam, some 70 km from south of here. Three civilians sustained firearm injuries during the clash with security forces. Senior police, army and paramilitary officers rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Authorities immediately snapped mobile internet services in all the four south Kashmir districts of Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama. Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in Tral town located in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on the eve of death anniversary of slain militant Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in huge numbers in several places and all entry points to the town have been closed by the forces. Security forces have set up ‘nakas’ in places since morning. The roads have been closed with barbed wire and security forces have been directing people to stay indoors.
