Srinagar: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir during wee hours on Wednesday. The exchange of fire is underway in Chattergam area of the region.

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving specific inputs about terrorists hiding in the area. More details are awaited.

Earlier on Tuesday, three terrorists, including one from an ISIS offshoot, were killed in two separate encounters in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of the state. A soldier was martyred while two jawans suffered injuries in the operation.

In the Kulgam encounter, two militants of the terror group Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed, while the one killed in Pulwama belonged to the Ansar Ghazwatul Hind, an ISIS offshoot, police informed.

Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Redwani area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir around midnight after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area. The neautralised terrorists were identified as Ajaz Ahmad Makroo and Waris Ahmad Malik.

On the other hand,  a militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in encounter at Hafoo area of Tral in Pulwama district. He has been identified as Shakir Hassan Dar of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind headed by Zakir Musa, the a police spokesman was quoted as saying in a PTI report.

Dar was involved in militancy since 2015, he further informed.
